out of the state

out of the state
In reference to rights, liabilities, or jurisdictions arising out of the common law, this phrase is equivalent to "beyond sea" (q.v.).
In other connections, it means physically beyond the territorial limits of the particular state in question, or constructively so, as in the case of a foreign corporation. But a foreign corporation maintaining an agent within the state is not deemed to be "out of the state," within various statutes dealing with jurisdiction over foreign corporations "doing business" within state
